The EMDB-China website has been upgraded as EMDB/EMPIAR-China since the start of January.

In 2016, Cryo-electron Microscopy Academic Subgroup of Biophysical Society of China (BSC) decided to work with EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), who built the Electron Microscopy Data Bank (EMBD) in Europe for researching on cyro-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to establish a mirror site in China.

After two years of preparations, EMDB-China (http://www.emdb-china.org.cn) was launched in August 2018, reporting approximately 10,000 hits until now.

To improve the service and browsing experience for users, EMBD-China was upgraded as EMDB/EMPIAR-China.

The updated website adds the data sources of EMPIAR (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/pdbe/emdb/empiar/), a public archive for raw electron microscopy image data, expanding the test data base for the methodology research.

The data update period of the website has been improved. The new website also developed tools for visualizing data from the EMBD website.

To further improve the service for users, the Institute of Biophysics under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) will advance the development of new features.
