Jin Li received his master's degree from Fudan University in 1987 and got his doctorate at the University of Texas in 1994. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University from 1994 to 1996.
In 1997, Jin served as a part-time professor of Fudan University's School of Life Sciences. He became a full-time professor of Fudan University in 2005.
In 2013, Jin Li was conferred the title of academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He is now mainly researching areas including medical genetics and genetic epidemiology, computational biology, human population genetics and genomics.
In recent years he has participated in many national programs. To date, he has published 650 papers in international journals including Nature and Science.
Jin Li has won numerous awards such as the State Award of Natural Sciences and a First-class Award of Natural Sciences from the Ministry of Education.
