Chinese boffins elected as world-leading biomedical scholars

Three illustrious members of the Biophysical Society of China made it onto an internationally acclaimed list of scientists who are recognized by their distinguished peers, according to BSC officials.

The Chinese trio were elected new members of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows, in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements.

The US institute, also known as the AIMBE, is the preeminent non-profit academic organization in the field of international medical and biological engineering, that brings together the world's elite in the field of biomedical engineering.

AIMBE Fellows make up the top 2 percent of the most outstanding scholars in the world in their area of expertise. They are nominated and rigorously selected by their international peers each year.

They are recommended by existing Fellows, and after two rounds of selections, the final selection must be participated in by all existing Fellows.

This year, 156 scientists were elected from 34 countries.

Three BSC members who are selected are Fan Chunhai from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Liang Xingjie from the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology and Zhang Xian’en from the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
