BSC subgroup undertakes first 'China Obesity Congress'

The intestinal flora academic subgroup of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) was one of the sponsors of the first China Obesity Congress held from July 30 to 31 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. Jiang Changtao, secretary-general of the subgroup and long-term professor of Peking University, served as executive chairman.
Based on the principles of multi-disciplinary exchanges and multi-industry cross-learning, more than 20 academic conferences were held simultaneously. Fang Zhongze, deputy secretary-general of the subgroup and deputy dean of the School of Public Health of Tianjin Medical University was a co-chair and organized a subforum on metabolism basic research.
During a media session of the congress, Jiang accepted interviews with more than 10 mainstream media outlets such as Xinhua News Agency, BJ News and Beijing Daily, giving information about many professional topics such as intestinal flora and obesity, obesity and the development of innovative drugs for related metabolic diseases.
Subgroup members Xu Feng, Xia Jialin, Wang Wanying, Zhang Wei, Li Xin, Liu Xu, and Gao Xiaoqian gave oral reports on the cross-research results of intestinal flora and metabolic obesity. Xu and Xia from the School of Basic Medical Science, Peking University won the "Certificate of Excellent Papers" award.
In the interactive discussion session, they exchanged with each other in a warm and ardent atmosphere.
Professor Lei Xiaoguang from Peking University, Professor Ai Ding from Tianjin Medical University, researchers Wang Jiqiu from Ruijin Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Xu Yanyong and Li Yang from Fudan University were invited to parallel sessions.
Other participants included Professor Li Pingping from the Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science & Peking Union Medical College, Researcher Song Ruisheng from Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and Professor Zhang Dong and Associate Professor Sun Guangyong from Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University.
They conducted in-depth exchanges on the pathogenesis of obesity and related metabolic diseases, and drug targeting.
The congress was co-hosted by the National Clinical Research Center for Digestive System Diseases (Beijing) and the Weight Loss and Metabolism Specialist Branch of the Beijing Medical Doctor Association.
