Zunyi Science and Technology Innovation Center unveiled

An unveiling ceremony for the Zunyi Science and Technology Innovation Center was held on Oct 9 in Guizhou province.

Representatives from the Biophysical Society of China (BSC), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Guizhou Association for Science and Technology (GZAST), Zunyi Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zunyi Medical University (ZMU) attended the event.

Rao Zihe, honorary president of the BSC and an academician at the CAS, delivered a speech at the ceremony. “As the first sci-tech innovation platform jointly founded by the BSC, the ZMU and the GZAST, the center aims to strengthen science popularization and improve public awareness of science. With a synergetic mechanism integrating sci-tech resources and industry experts, the center will fuel local social and economic development, facilitate innovation-driven development strategies, accelerate the process of building China into a leading power in science and technology, and contribute to the national strategies of invigorating the country through science and education,” he said.

The BSC signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the ZMU and the GZAST afterwards. Based on the agreement, the BSC will advance sci-tech innovation and science popularization with local governments, assist in strategy studies and talent training, create a favorable environment for academic cooperation, collect and integrate relevant resources, and provide greater support in science education.

Following the signing ceremony, Rao unveiled the nameplates for the innovation center and the science education base at Yuqing Middle School with officials.

The BSC has attached great importance to sci-tech innovation and science education in recent years. It has established a professional team of academicians and research fellows, carried out various science popularization activities and won the recognition of the China Association for Science and Technology.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the establishment of the innovation center is committed to promoting scientific and technological cooperation, academic exchange and resource sharing with local governments, so as to expedite local talent training and socio-economic construction, said the organizers.
