Biophysical Society of Jiangsu Province established in Nanjing

The inaugural meeting of the Biophysical Society of Jiangsu Province was held on Aug 14, bringing together its members for the first time in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu.
Rao Zihe, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and honorary president of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC), attended the meeting via video link.
Onsite participants included representatives from renowned domestic universities, the Jiangsu provincial government, science and technology associations and academic organizations. A total of 123 members across Jiangsu province took part in the meeting, including 44 online attendees.
The event was presided over by Ji Xiaoyun, a professor from Nanjing University (NJU).

Shi Yunyu, a CAS academician and a professor from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Zhang Junfeng, vice-president of NJU, unveiled the nameplate for the society.
Zhou Hengxin, deputy director of the Department of Civil Affairs of Jiangsu Province, and Feng Shaodong, vice-president of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, issued letters of appointment of expert consultants to Shi, Rao, Liu Pingsheng, director-general of the BSC and research fellow at the Institute of Biophysics of the CAS, and Professor Gao Xiang.
Rao, also founding chairman of China Union of Life Science Societies and a professor at Tsinghua University, expressed congratulations on the establishment of the society on behalf of the union. He encouraged society members to achieve good results with a down-to-earth spirit and through persistent efforts.
Shi wished the society a flourishing development, and said she hopes for members and students to work hard and insist on life-long learning.
Officials and professors, including Liu, Zhou, Feng, Yue Zhishun, head of the society and academic division of the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, Wang Jianjun, honorary president of Jiangsu Society of Physiological Sciences and a professor at NJU, and Han Xiao, executive director of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology and a professor at Nanjing Medical University, put forward guidance and suggestions for the development of the newly-established society.
The members will give full play to the platform provided by the society to achieve common development, said Zhang, also member of the standing committee of the CPC NJU committee.
The meeting passed “The Constitution of the Biophysical Society of Jiangsu Province”, and elected the society’s first council members and supervisors.
Zhang Chenyu, dean of the School of Life Sciences at NJU, was elected as the first president and legal representative. Gu Ning, a CAS academician from the Southeast University, Professor Wang Wei from NJU, and Professor Wu Jiawei from Soochow University were elected as vice-presidents. Ji was voted as secretary-general of the society.
