The Ninth Chinese Hearing Research Conference & Xijing Otology Fundamental Research Forum was held from May 19 to 21 in Xi’an, Shaanxi province.

The conference brought together experts and scholars from home and abroad to discuss the development and prevention of deafness, the genetic identification and pathogenesis of hereditary deafness, the development and regeneration of hair cells, organoid studies, as well as audiology transduction and auditory center regulation mechanisms.

They delivered lectures on future research priorities in auditory science, progress in age-related hearing loss, genetic diagnosis, new gene identification and the prevention of hereditary deafness, clinical diagnosis, the treatment and pathogenesis of Treacher Collins syndrome, complex cochlear implantation and hearing-related issues, West China Hospital’s big data strategy for rare diseases and WGS clinical application capacity building, the neurotoxicity and antagonism of bilirubin, the publication of life science papers in the Wiley Online Library, advance in the construction of inner ear organoids, and the role of peroxisomes in auditory functions in mouse cochlear hair cells.

The latest achievements in genetic diagnosis and gene therapy for hereditary deafness, animal models for inner ear research, as well as molecular and cellular mechanisms of deafness were also showcased at the meeting.

The event was hosted by the Hearing, Speech and Communication Studies Academic Subgroup of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) and the Basic Research Expert Committee of the Audiology Development Foundation of China.
