The third national conference on biological phase separation and phase transition & the annual meeting of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC)'s Academic Subgroup of Phase Separation and Phase Transition of Biological Macromolecules were held in Shanghai from June 1 to 4.

Organized by the BSC's Academic Subgroup of Phase Separation and Phase Transition of Biological Macromolecules and themed on phase transition and human health, the conferences focused on new technologies and methods for studying and characterizing protein phase separation, as well as the connections between phase separation, phase transition and human health and diseases.

A total of 67 distinguished scholars and young researchers delivered academic presentations, showcasing their latest research findings and discussing important scientific issues and technological bottlenecks in phase separation and phase transition of biological macromolecules.

Their topics included the regulatory mechanisms, cell signal transduction, and physiological and pathological mechanisms of protein phase separation and phase transition and understanding of protein phase separation and phase transition from multidisciplinary perspectives, as well as protein phase separation, transcription and translation, protein phase separation and phase transition related disorders and diseases, and plant-based protein phase separation.

The events also invited editors from renowned domestic and international journals such as Cell Research, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Chemical Biology, Cell Reports, Protein & Cell, and Life Metabolism to share insights into the current research, publication trends and standards, as well as future development of protein phase separation and phase transition.

Zhang Hong, a researcher at the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and secretary-general of the BSC, delivered a keynote speech titled Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation in Autophagy.

The conferences displayed 58 posters and collected 160 abstracts. More than 600 participants from nearly 40 domestic and international universities and research institutions attended the academic events.
