Wu Chen

Professor, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College

Wu Chen is engaged in research on tumor genetics and tumor genomics. To research China's largest esophageal cancer prevention and treatment cohort, Wu has constructed a dynamic genomic sample bank and a comprehensive database dedicated to esophageal cancer. Additionally, she has developed cancer mutation and risk prediction models and explored the molecular mechanisms of tumor genome evolution.

Furthermore, Wu has integrated multomics studies on highly prevalent squamous cell carcinoma and malignant tumors of the digestive system in the Chinese population, driving forward precision prevention and treatment for esophageal cancer.

Several of Wu’s research findings have been published in prestigious international academic journals such as Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, and Cancer Cell. Her scientific achievements have been recognized with awards such as second prize in the National Natural Science Awards and first prize in the Natural Science Awards launched by the Ministry of Education.

Wu has been honored with the special government allowance of the State Council, named a Young Global Leader in 2020, and awarded the 24th China Youth May Fourth Medal, the Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award, the Outstanding Young Scholar Award of the Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation, the Chinese Young Women in Science Fellowship, the 2022 Scientific Exploration Award in Medical Science, the National Model of Women Pioneers, and the National Advanced Individual in Fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic, among others.
