Teng Gaojun

CAS academician, Southeast University

Teng Gaojun is committed to the clinical diagnosis, teaching, and scientific research of medical imaging and interventional radiology. He has made pioneering and sustained contributions to the development of interventional radiology in China, particularly in the fields of liver cancer, peripheral blood vessels, and the spine, where he has achieved remarkable accomplishments in interventional treatments. Rooted in frontline clinical practice, he has initiated more than 10 interventional techniques and completed tens of thousands of interventional surgeries.

Teng has invented and developed radioactive particle stents and related implantation techniques and theories, significantly improving the survival time and quality of life of patients with esophageal, biliary, portal vein, and airway obstructions caused by malignant tumors. His establishment of a new theory on the re-narrowing of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stents due to bile leakage laid the foundation for the development and wide application of new stents in the treatment of portal hypertension.

As a pioneer in molecular imaging, Teng has developed multiple new techniques and applications in molecular and functional imaging, integrating them with interventional techniques, and leading at the frontier of interventional disciplines. His research achievements have won three second prizes in National Science and Technology Progress Awards. Teng has published more than 200 papers and obtained over 10 Chinese and international invention patents.

Due to Teng's contributions to international interventional radiology, he has been awarded the highest honors by the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe, the Society of Interventional Radiology, and the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology. Additionally, he has received honors such as the Chinese Physician Award and been recognized as a young expert with outstanding contributions by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Railways.
