Five BSC experts honored with 16th C.C. Tan Life Science Awards

The 16th awards ceremony of the C.C. Tan Life Science Awards took place in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Nov 18. Five distinguished experts from the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) were recognized with the innovation award for their outstanding contributions. 

They are Jiang Changtao, vice-dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Peking University (PKU), Xiao Junyu, tenured associate professor at the School of Life Sciences at PKU and researcher at the Tsinghua University-PKU Joint Center for Life Sciences, Wang Hongmei, researcher at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and director of the State Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Reproductive Biology, Bai Fan, researcher at the Biomedical Pioneering Innovation Center and professor at the School of Life Sciences at PKU, and Gao Pu, researcher at the CAS Institute of Biophysics.

At the ceremony, Rao Zihe, director of the reward committee of the C.C. Tan Life Science Awards, honorary president of the BSC and a CAS academician, highlighted Tan's dedication to science and pursuit of truth. 

Tan devoted his life to genetics, contributing significantly to genetic research and nurturing a generation of excellent talents in the field, Rao said. 

He described Tan as an exemplary role model for scientists and educators who embodied high academic and ethical standards. 

The C.C. Tan Life Science Awards, now in the 16th year, continue to uphold Tan's spirit of dedication to life science and have become a symbol of respect for knowledge and talent and commitment to scientific excellence in China’s life science circles. 

This year's awards included various categories, such as the achievement award, international cooperation award, clinical medicine award, industrialization award and innovation award. They were presented to 18 experts and scholars.
