The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) announced the election of new members of its College of Fellows on March 25 in recognition of their achievements in medical and biological engineering. 

Four members of the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) were included in the list of fellows. They are: Cheng Jing, distinguished professor at Tsinghua University School of Medicine; Cheng Zhen, director, project leader and researcher at the Molecular Imaging Center of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Gong Qiyong, vice-president of West China Hospital of Sichuan University; and Zhang Fan, professor at Fudan University.

Established in 1991, the AIMBE, as a renowned non-profit academic organization in medical and bioengineering, aims to provide support for and advocacy of the development of research for the benefit of society. 

To date, the organization has more than 2,000 fellows, representing the top two percent of the medical and bioengineering community.

The fellows are nominated and selected each year by their peers (nominated by existing fellows, selected through two rounds of screening, and ultimately elected by a vote of all fellows).

As the highest academic honor in medical and bioengineering technology in the United States, it has had a significant impact on biomedicine, medical devices, disease treatment and public health policy formulation.
