Session 15: Calcium signaling in life

Calcium ions are essential nutrients and signaling molecules for eukaryotes. In recent years, numerous studies have revealed the calcium signal transduction mechanisms and functions within organelles and in organelle interactions at the micro level and uncovered the crucial role played by calcium signaling in long-distance signal transduction in organisms.

Calcium signaling-dependent cellular activities are closely related to plant resistance, human health and diseases. Unveiling the generation and regulation of calcium signaling, calcium homeostasis and imbalance, as well as the relationship between calcium ions and plant resistance and human diseases from multiple perspectives, is expected to strengthen food security and improve human health.
