Xiao Ruiping

Xiao Ruiping is the dean of the College of Future Technology at Peking University, director of its Institute of Molecular Medicine and a tenured chair professor at Peking University. She is also a recipient of China’s National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. 

Xiao earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Tongji Medical University and her PhD in biology from the University of Maryland in 1995. In 2003, she was appointed as a tenured senior investigator at the National Institutes of Health. 

She has served as a member of the steering committee of the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association, as well as fellow of the International Society for Heart Research and the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Since 2014, she has been an associate editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.

With a dual background in medicine and biology, Xiao focuses on the molecular mechanisms of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, along with drug discovery. Her long-term, systematic and in-depth research revolves around three major classes of drug targets—G protein-coupled receptors, enzymes and hormone receptors. She has published over 170 scientific papers, which have been cited nearly 15,000 times. Her work spans from mechanistic breakthroughs to drug design and clinical trials, making her one of China’s leading figures in translational medicine.
