Women Scientists Development Forum held amid 2025 ICBC

The Industry–Academia–Research Translation Development Forum & Women Scientists Development Forum, a special event of the 21st Chinese Biophysics Congress (2025 ICBC) opened in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on July 31. Organized by the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) and Cytiva, the event gathered nine distinguished women scientists and more than 100 researchers and young scholars. 

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the diverse opportunities of science from a female perspective, centering on basic research, technology translation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

In his opening remarks, Zhang Hong, then vice-president and secretary-general of the BSC, emphasized that the BSC will continue to support the growth of female researchers and to foster a more diverse, inclusive and collaborative scientific ecosystem, empowering more women to shine and thrive in their scientific journeys.

Meanwhile, Xiao Ruiping, president of the BSC Female Scientists Committee, reflected on the evolving social recognition of women scientists and underscored their vital role in scientific advancement. She noted that women scientists often excel at integrating biological intuition with engineering thinking, driving the emergence and growth of groundbreaking technologies. 

Xiao expressed hope that more collaborators will join in breaking down disciplinary barriers so that the brilliance of women’s wisdom can illuminate every corner of innovation.

Subsequent to the speeches, nine distinguished women scientists gave reports spanning a wide range of cutting-edge topics, such as: applications of mass spectrometry-based omics in life sciences, women-specific drug development driven by new estrogen receptor regulatory targets, mechanisms of SVF dynamic balance, as well as genetic mechanisms of birth defects and novel strategies for reversing gene mutation–induced malformation through protein modification.

The forum featured a roundtable discussion exploring ways for translation and collaboration to address clinical challenges. Guests exchanged insights on new technologies, core competitiveness cultivation and talent training.
