Year-end Review of the Biophysical Society of China III
Updated: 2026-01-30
In 2025, the Biophysical Society of China (BSC) advanced development through the "Party Building Plus" model by strengthening political guidance via academic exchanges, science popularization practices, and promotional guidance. BSC successfully completed its leadership transition, deepened cooperation with international journals, and enhanced regional exchanges. It organized 32 academic conferences, established a platform for industry-academia-research integration, and supported the cultivation of young talent.
As 2026 begins, BSC remains committed to its professional mission, collaborating with colleagues to explore new opportunities and advance the industry to new heights.
5 Science communication
Expanding boundaries and building brand identity
In 2025, BSC has crafted a comprehensive science communication strategy that integrates brand projects, professional content, digital dissemination, and organizational support, forming a distinctive science communication framework in the field of biophysics.
Core initiatives such as the "Spring Rain Project," "Excellence Program for High School Students," the publication of "Cell Puzzle," and public science outreach at conferences have advanced in synergy, maturing the science communication brand matrix. A dual-track approach of scientific frontier exploration and science popularization has established a stable content supply mechanism. The expansion of communication boundaries through seven platform matrices, four video IPs, and multiple live broadcasts has been achieved, while an expert database and member participation mechanisms have bolstered content creation and organizational execution capabilities.
01 Spring Rain Project: Cultivating science in Western China

In 2025, the "Spring Rain Project" was successfully implemented in Mianyang, Sichuan, establishing a long-term and sustainable science communication presence in the western region.
02 Excellence Program: Building a youth research enlightenment system

In 2025, 66 submissions were received from multiple provinces across the country. After evaluation by nine experts from six institutions including Tsinghua and Peking University, seven "Excellent Papers" and 15 "Exploratory Papers" were selected. Seven students successfully defended their work at BSC's Excellence Program, receiving project funding. The live defense attracted over 100,000 viewers, seamlessly connecting youth training with national academic platforms.

03 Science publication: Comprehensive dissemination of "cell puzzle"
Edited by Academician Xu Tao, with Vice Editors Academician Zhang Hong and Researcher Hu Junjie, "Cell Puzzle" brings together experts from various fields to present the development of life sciences, research methods, and stories of scientists through the lens of organelles. During the biophysics conference, the "Science Egg Tart: Life Train" themed salon attracted 231,000 online and offline viewers. During National Science Popularization Month, a special report at Beijing City Library reached over 300 offline attendees and 28,000 online viewers.

04 Communication matrix: expanding multi-platform and live broadcast synergy

In the Substance: Released 18 episodes throughout the year, focusing on health science topics of public interest such as sugar, obesity, and bones. It presents fundamental knowledge of life sciences in a systematic course format, with a total view count exceeding 600,000.
Hi! Organelles: Based on the society's popular science publication "Cell Puzzle," this series produced 10 derivative videos, attracting significant interaction from young users.
Science Answerers: Released 35 episodes over the year, inviting 35 leading scientists to discuss cutting-edge issues. It garnered 800,000 views and over 5,000 interactive comments, with comprehensive upgrades in scenes and visual expression.
Talk: Completed in-depth interviews with four scientists, including Academician Shi Yuyu, documenting their scientific journeys and spirit, and building a deep narrative of "knowledge — spirit — value" dissemination.
05 Media platform matrix: addition of Xiaohongshu and Wechat video channel
In 2025, the BSC continued to enhance its digital platform synergy by adding Xiaohongshu and WeChat Video Channel to its existing setup, creating a communication matrix across seven platforms. The total number of followers across all platforms has surpassed 322,000. In 2025, we released 60 science popularization videos, conducted 29 live broadcasts, and published 78 articles, with a cumulative view count reaching 2.549 million.

"Seeing Vitality — Biological Signal Labeling and Imaging" series courses
The total viewership for live broadcasts throughout the year reached 1.437 million, with the conference series alone accounting for 1.1879 million views. The National Science Popularization Month live broadcasts covered 16,000 viewers, establishing itself as a core channel for the public to access scientific knowledge.
Support for Branch Series Live Broadcasts: Throughout the year, we assisted branches in conducting 29 live broadcasts focused on their specific areas of expertise, forming a dual-track model of "scientific frontier + science popularization interpretation."
6 Member services: enhancing engagement and support
The society has improved information dissemination and member engagement through regular updates, showcasing member achievements, and offering public courses. Innovative service models and interactive features during conferences have significantly increased participation.

7 Academic journals: advancing scientific discourse
English journal "Protein & Cell," led by Academician Rao Zihe, and "Biophysics Reports," edited by Academician Xu Tao, continue to receive support and recognition, contributing to the global scientific dialogue. "Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics," with its longstanding history, remains a key publication in the field.

As we step into 2026, BSC remains committed to its professional mission, striving for new breakthroughs and advancing the field of biophysics in collaboration with peers.
