2026 National Terahertz Biophysics Conference held in Shanghai

From April 10 to 12, 2026, the National Terahertz Biophysics Conference was held in Shanghai. The event was organized by the Terahertz Biophysics Subcommittee of the Biophysical Society of China, ShanghaiTech University, and several prominent institutes, including the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Co-organizers included the Chinese Institute of Electronics' Young Scientists Terahertz Committee and the National Key Laboratory for Brain-Machine Interface Technology (in preparation), among others.
The conference was chaired by a distinguished panel of academicians, including Li Ruxin, Zhao Zhentang, Zhuang Songlin, and others. Opening remarks were delivered by Li Ruxin, Zhuang Songlin, Jin Kuijuan, and Deng Haixiao, director of the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute.
Chang Chao, president of the Terahertz Biophysics Subcommittee, presided over the opening ceremony. Keynote speakers included Zhao Zhentang, researcher Chang Chao from the Academy of Military Sciences, and several other esteemed researchers from top institutions.
The conference featured eight thematic forums, including Terahertz Biophysics Fundamentals, Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging, and Terahertz Bioeffects and Precision Medicine. Nearly 300 experts and scholars participated, presenting over 150 reports. The discussions focused on recent advances, opportunities, and challenges in terahertz biophysics, fostering interdisciplinary exchanges among physics, biology, chemistry, and medicine.
Highlights of the conference included the selection of the "Top Ten Terahertz Advances" from recent publications in leading journals, along with awards for four "Elite Papers," ten "Emerging Papers," and eight "Innovative Posters."
The event concluded with a message of optimism, emphasizing the vibrant exchanges and idea-sharing among esteemed experts and young scholars. This gathering effectively promoted interdisciplinary integration and innovation in terahertz technology, injecting new vitality into the field's development.
