Symposium on the legacy of Academician Liang Dongcai's scientific spirit held in Beijing

On May 29, a symposium dedicated to the legacy of Academician Liang Dongcai's scientific spirit was held at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing. Liang Dongcai, a renowned biophysicist and structural biologist, was a pivotal figure in the development of the Chinese Biophysical Society, having served as its president during multiple terms and later as honorary president. His contributions significantly advanced the society's growth, international collaborations, and the global recognition of Chinese biophysics.

The symposium was attended by esteemed academicians including Kuang Tingyun, Shi Yuyu, Wang Zhizhen, Chang Wenrui, Rao Zihe, Chen Xiaoming, and Zhang Hong, as well as Wang Puyue, deputy director of the Life Sciences Department of the National Natural Science Foundation, Li Ming, Party secretary of the Institute of Physics, Wang Hongyan, Party secretary of the National Astronomical Observatories, members of the leadership team of the Institute of Biophysics, and representatives from related institutions, along with Liang's family and students.

Participants fondly remembered Liang's exceptional contributions to structural biology and his rigorous scientific integrity and noble character. They expressed high hopes for young scientists, inspired by Liang's lifelong dedication to research and education, which laid a solid foundation for China's structural biology discipline. Liang's spirit serves as a beacon of inspiration for future generations of researchers.

In honor of Liang Dongcai, the International Astronomical Union has officially named asteroid number 18529 as "Liang Dongcai Star." As this celestial body shines eternally, so too does Liang's legacy, continuing to inspire and guide the scientific community.
