2026 Chinese Biophysics Conference: Mechanobiology Symposium highlights

On August 1, 2026, the Mechanobiology Symposium of the Chinese Biophysics Conference was held in Boao, Hainan. Co-chaired by Associate Professors Shao Yue, Yang Yuehua, and Professor Li Yiwei, the symposium featured 12 scholars discussing the forefront of mechanobiology, from molecular mechanisms of force sensing to translational applications.

Professor Xiao Bailong from Tsinghua University detailed the conformational changes and mechanical gating of PIEZO channels, highlighting their lever-like mechanism for sensing mechanical stimuli. Professor Lu Tongqing from Xi'an Jiaotong University presented on hydrogel design for tissue repair, showcasing new composite patch materials. Professor Li Yiwei proposed new insights into how mechanical signals regulate organoid fate through AXIN phase separation.

Dr. Chen Xindong and Dr. Song Le discussed virtual cell world models, emphasizing their potential in predicting cellular responses to drugs using multi-omics data and molecular simulations.

In force sensing and regulation, Dr. Lü Jiadi introduced a technique for expanding CAR-T cells using β2 integrin mechanical signals. Professor Le Shimin revealed a proline isomerization mechanism in titin for mechanical adaptation. Researcher Tang Yiquan identified TMC3 as a key mechanosensor for airway patency in the vagus nerve. Professor Ling Feng analyzed ciliary motion regulation, providing new insights into wave direction.

In molecular and cellular mechanobiology, Associate Professor Gong Rui explained Afadin's role in cadherin complex aggregation on F-actin. Professor Li Zhenhai examined how CD8 influences TCR-pMHC interface mechanics. Associate Professor Yang Yuehua explored the mechanical regulation of epithelial dome structures.

The symposium attracted around 70 participants, showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the innovative vitality of mechanobiology.
