Biophysical Society of China science education in 2019 (1)

For the Biophysical Society of China, also known as the BSC, 2019 was the year of reform for its science popularization and education work.

Last year, the BSC established its Science Popularization Education Working Committee to arrange for full-time personnel to engage in promoting science, with the aim of making the work of the BSC more sustainable and targeted.

In so doing, the BSC has strived to combine knowledge, cutting-edge activities and best practice in its promotion of science, so as to strengthen its services and improve the scientific sensibility of the population as a whole.

At the same time, the BSC has strengthened its cooperation with the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, or the CAS. It has made full use of the experts and resources of the institute, so as to localize and normalize the work of science promotion and expand its areas of operation.

In 2019, the BSC strengthened the branding and development of science promotion, developed the "IBP Tour" project and carried out nearly 20 activities within the year.

In addition, the BSC also employed new media live broadcasting, as well as cooperated with education departments, enabling experts to give lectures at primary and secondary school classes – and it cooperated with local authorities to establish science promotion centers to support local science education.

1. Volunteer team for science promotion expanded

A total of 13 subgroups and the academic committee of the BSC have participated in science promotions work, attracting hundreds of young scientists, master's degree and doctoral students to join a team of experts.

The followers of the public WeChat account of the BSC increased to 8,049. Last year, the public account issued 161 articles, attracting 222,895 readers and the article with the highest number of clicks had 1,765 views.

In 2019, the BSC organized experts to carry out over 40 science popularization lectures, and held 50 science promotion activities which benefited more than 15,000 people. In addition, two science popularization experts published books.
